NOTES. Racing at Wanganui on Thursday and Saturday next. The Ashburton meeting opens on Friday next and concludes on Saturday. The Auckland-owned Whcatficld Is still at Awapuni under veterinary treatment. He is stili in a very bad way, and on his looks, it is doubtful if he will ever race again. J. Roach will ride Oakleigh in the Wanganui Steeplechase. War Loan will be off the scene for some little time as the result of minor injuries received while racing the first day at liawera. Chronicle."
Bonetter, Trespass, Silent Dick, Gladful, Vagabond, Liirkenella, Blue Socks, San Forte and Martian Miss have been nominated for the Dunedin Jockey Club's Winter Meeting.
Her Excellency Lady Jellicoc's lease of Gartmbre having expired, he has been returned to the Waikanae fetud.
Trainers and jockeys would do well to remember that applications for licenses for next season must be made on or before May 31.
All the jumping events at the Dunedin Jockey Club's Meeting have filled beyond expectations, though the dearth of good " leppers " in the South Island is reflected by the lack of class. In the cross country events the best at those engaged appear to be General Petain, Palen-cia, Romance, Red Cent, Mahawaponga and Malincourt, while of the hurdlers Cerberus, Gladful, Gamecock, Lord Nagar, Mazama, Romance and Vagabond represent the better quality.
It will be good news to owners to learn that the 10 per cent, tax on stakes will automatically expire in the course of a few months unless Parliament reimposes it. Originally it' was put on for two years, and this period will expire in July.-
While in Auckland on his way to England, Mr. Sol Green stated that he had commissioned Andrew Robertson to proceed to England and purchase a stallion not above three years, at a cost up to £IO,OOO, as well as several well-bred yearlings.
Though Town Guard could do no better than finish fourth in the Two Thousand Guineas:, he still holds his position as favourite for the Derby. He is in little less demand than My Lord and Ellangowan.
