SABOTAGE IN RUHR.
GERMAN GANG ON TRIAL. LEADER RECEIVES DEATH SENTENCE. i SAID TO BE EX- CONVICTS. [By Electric Cable—Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Friday, 7 p.m.) PARIS, May 11. The trial has ended at Dusseldorf or a gang of professional saboteurs who, the French allege, belonged to a secret organisation called the “Heath. Committee,” founded with the purpose of doing all the damage possible in the Ruhr. It was stated that the gang was composed mostly of ex-conVicts, who would stick at nothing to carry out the orders of their superiors. Among their exploits was the dynamiting tu stations and bridges, train wrecking, and murders by poisoning and bludgeoning. Their headquarters, according to the French authorities, was at one time in a Krupp factory, but latterly had been removed to an office in unoccupied Germany. Schlagetter, aged thirty-seven, a former artillery officer and leader of the gang, was sentenced to death, and the others to long terms of imprisonment. ITALIAN REPLY TO GERMANY. FAVOURS NEGOTIATIONS. (Received Friday, 7 p.m.) ROME, May 10. The reply to the German Note will be delivered next Saturday. It is understood it will declare that while, •the Government considers the German offer insufficient, it favours opening ■negotiations in order to break down the deadlock concerning the reparations.
