A meeting of shareholders in the New Zealand Meat and Bacon Packing Co., was held on Tuesday even. ing last„ in the temporary hall. Strong exception was taken to the action of the company in calling up all outstand. ing shares. Mr J. Gould was elected chairman. After the position had been fully explained, it was moved by Mr Buckman and seconded by Mr Viles that legal advice should be taken, and that Apiti shareholders take similar action to that taken by the farmers in other parts of the North Island. A levy was mad c to provide funds to pay for incidental expenses. The Bibrary Committee also held its annual meeting on Tuesday evening, when the balarice.sheet was read, and the officers and committee for the ensuing year were elected. Mr Cummerileld was elected president, Mr Bennett treasurer, and Mr F. Howell secretary. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded Messrs Cummerfield. and Vail for their past ser. vices; also to Mr and Mrs Cantwell, for the use of a room for the books. The committee feel a deep sense of gratitude to this lady and gentleman for allowing their house to be used. Mrs Cummerfield, too, was thanked for her services in choosing new books.
