COUNTY ELECTIONS.
RESULTS OF CONTESTS. FEW CHANGES IN COUNCILMEMBERSHIP. FAIRLY HEAVY POLLING. Despite unfavourable weather conditions In the Manawatu district yesterday, a good deal of interest wa3 taken in the triennial county elections, although in many of the counties, few changes were made on account of the fact that many sifting members have been returned without- opposition, and in this connection, it is interesting to, note that no poll was necessary in the Manawatu county, owing to an entire absence of opposition. No ballot was required in the Kai-> rauga county in connection with the Hospital Board, Power Soard and Harbour Board. At Pohangina only one election was necessary, all the sitting councillors being re-elected except in the Mangaone riding. Perhaps a little more interest than usual was displayed at Horowhenua and this is borne out by the large number of contestants. Tokomaru was the only riding for which an election was not necessary. Following are the results of yester* day's polling: — KAIRAXGA. TAONUI RIDING. Small, P. J 319 Collis, D 263 Mildon, P. G 248 Nielsen, N. P 226 Campbell, N.
