Orona Power Board was asked to guarantee to take a supply of 1300 k.w. for the first year, rising to 33 00 in the fifth year, the board decided yesterday to write to the Public Works Department expressing the opinion that the question of guarantee should be held over for 12 months. The two sons of Mr J. Harrison, of Bunnythorpe, aged five and eight years respectively, were taken suddenly ill during the week-end, and upon „..e doctor’s advice were removed to the Palmerston North Hospital. Their condition is not serious. On the motion of Councillor A. J. Graham at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council, it was decided that the fares chargee, by taxi-proprie-tors, namely, minimum fare 2/6 and fare for one passenger for first mile 1/6, be reduced to 2/- and 1/- respectively. The good attendance of members of the Manawatu-Oroua Electric Power Board s favourably commented upon by Mr. M. A. Eliott at yesterday's meeting. He observed that, of 15 general meetings during the year, with one exception, there had been full at. tendances. "I think the Town Clerk has done very well,” said the Mayor at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council, when casually referring to the outstanding rates. He said that the amount collected was £47,000.
