RAILWAY PICNIC.
AT AW.VPLM RACECOURSE, Well over 1500 people attended the. railway employees’ annual picnic, which was held at Awapuni racecourse_ yesterday. Everyone had a. jolly time, and a programme of sports was much enjoyed. A well-organised committee, with Mr W. O’Donnell as secretary, had all the arrangements well in hand. Following are the results of the sports events Boys’ race, 14 to Ifi years: Norris 1, Watson 2. Girls, 14 to 1G years; Miss Norris 1, Miss Downing 2. Railway championship: Glasson 1, Denford 2 Single ladies’: Miss de Cleere I, Miss Norris 2. Girls’ three-legged race: Misses Norris and Loveday 1. Misses Benton and Hall 2. Railway Handicap: McKinley 1, Pye 2, Fyfe 3. Thread.the-Necdle race: Miss Norris and Norris 1, Mr and Mrs O’Neill 2. Men’s sack race: Campbell 1, Williams 2. Raihvaymen’s wives: Sirs Fyfe L Mrs Stone 2, Mrs Lewin 3. Railwaymen’s wives: Mrs O’Neill 1, Mrs Hogg 2. Men’s apple race: Johnson 1, Williams 2. Relay race: Cockroft, Kerr, Glasson and Keenan. Married ladies’: Mrs Lethaby 1. Ladies’ nail-driving: Mrs Atkinson 1, Mrs Drain 2. Wheelbarrow race; Blackie and Wearne 1, Cosgrove and Grieve 2. Ham and egg race: Hooker ‘and Miss McLean 1. Johnson and Miss Weeks 2. Ladies’ consolation race: Miss Walton 1, Mrs Turner 2. Tug-of-war: Drivers 1, Goods Shed 2.
