ATTEMPTED RAPE.
MAORI YOUTH PLEADS GUILTY. A serious charge of attempted rape at Maratiri, near Foxton, on February >l7, was preferred against a Maori youth, named Kelly Richmond, 17i years of age, before Messrs. A. J. Gra. ham and F. J. Nathan, J’s.P., in the Police Court yesterday. DetectiveSergeant Quirke, for the police, stated that the accused had been employed on a farm belonging to the father of the girl assaulted, and during the ab, sence of the parents for a few hours, had taken the opportunity, when the little girl, not yet ten years of age, was changing her clothes to commit the offence. After hearing the, evi. dence, which was of an unsavoury na. ture. the accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
