WELLINGTON’S FINANCES.
MAYOR REPLIES TO CRITICISM. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. Strong criticism has recently been offered of Wellington municipal finances, one ex-Mayor contending that the city was some £30,000 to the bad, if not more, and that general extravagance was shown in expenditure. The Mayor, on the other hand, as. serts that the financial position is quite sound and that the overdraft this year would be much below the amount of revenue outstanding. After cutting down the estimates, it was found that they were still £6OOO above the revenue, but the Mayor says a strong effort will be made to overcome this, and that most of it will bo savcu.
