The death, occurred at yesterday of Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., at the age of 54 years. Hon. Sir John Sinclair is at Indisposed, and has been unable to resume his seat in the Legislative Council. The results of the Section B of the Pharmacy Board’s examinations show that Mr J. Hepworth, of Palmerston North, was one of the successful entrants. Mr T. McLaren, who has been relieving manager of the Woodvllle branch of the Bank of Lew Zealand for the last three months, has returned to Wellington. Mr Norman Tate, who has been connected with demonstration work in schools throughout the Dominion, will leave Auckland by the Makura on Friday to take up an appointment in Victoria. It is stated that Mr P. A. de Perelle, chairman of the Southland Education Board, will be a candidate for the Awarna seat at the general election. Mr de Perelle is the proprietor of the Winton “Record.” Mr K. Harre, of Utuwal, left for his new appointment as first assistant at Mananui school, near Taumarunui, on Saturday, and has been succeeded by Mr C. O. Christoffensen, formerly of Hawke's Bay. Rev. Dean McKenna, who has been SB years in New Zealand (three years in Hawera and 33 years in New Plymouth) died yesterday afternoon, aged 65 years, states a New Plymouth Press Association message. The funeral will take place on Tuesday next. Mr W. B. O’Callaghan, one of Palmerston North’s best-known business men, has been appointed to the position of auctioneer with Messrs Griffiths Bros , Ltd., auctioneers, of Blenheim, and' will be leaving for his new sphere of activity in the course of a few days. Mr G. H Lalng, who has been stationed at Dunedin, arrived in Palmerston North by the Auckland express dupes as Clerk of the Palmerston North Court, vice Mr E. W. Cave, who has been transferred to Christchurch. Mr Lalng was accompanied by his wife and family. Mr J. C. Smith, M.So., a student in the department of chemistry at tin Auckland University College, has been awarded by the commissioners the 1851 Exhibition Science Research Scholarship for 1322. Cabled information to this effect has been received from the New Zealand University agent In England. The scholarship la valued at £l5O a vear and Is tenable for two years, with the possibility of extension to a third year. Mr Smith last year carried out at the Auckland University College a research In chem. istry of great merit and Is at present on his way ro Engl md to continue his investigations. The death occurred at the Palmerston North Efospital at 11.30 on Tuesday night of Mr John McLeod, who for the past 10 years had been clerk in the office of the Hospital Board. He was 49 years of age. Prior to his entering the service of the Board, the deceased gentleman had been a member of the mounted police, and was a fellow-recruit of Detective-Sergeant Quirk of Palmerston North, but was compelled to -eslgn on account of illhealth, and since that time he had been a semi-invalid. Last May he was granted three months' leave of absence, but returned to duty within a fortnight This most popular officer had many friends In Palmerston North, and the hospital staff In particular will sorely miss him. His mother lives In Featherston street, and a brother, resident in the South Island, is at present staying In town. The flag at the hospital was flown at halfmast yesterday. Sectional sales in progress at Colllnson and Cunlnghame’s all day today comprise men’s suits at four and five guineas each.
