WINTER BOWLING.
CLUB FORMED IN PALMERSTON. There was an attendance of 18 bowlers at a meeting held last night for the purpose of forming a Winter Bowling Club. Before retiring to a committee-room for this business, the bowlers indulged in trial shots on the newly-prepared floor in the produce hall at the showgrounds. In the preparation of this Mr F. Needham, convener of the meeting, was prime mover. The chair was taken by Mr J. G. Radford and on his motion it was resolved to form a club. The election of officers resulted as under: President, Mr P. Nedham; vice-presidents, Messrs Radford, T. R. Hodder and W T . M. Tapp; secretary, Mr G. H.'Trott; committee, Messrs G. Wilson, Wallace, Pickering, J. Grant and L. R. Bryant; coach, Mr F. Laurenson; match committee, Messrs Needham, Pickering and Laurenson. In the meantime the secretary acts as treasurer. Mr Needham pointed out that a membership of 150 was practically assured. It then decided to fix the subscription at £1 1/. All present enrolled. Trophies to the value of £1 1/ each were offered by Messrs C. H. Allen, P. Needham and G. Tremaine. The Central School Committee, on the request of a deputation consisting of Messrs Canton and Edwards, were granted the use of the hall for a dance on August 11th, at the cost of incidental expenses.
