POSTAL OFFICERS AND ALLIANCE.

LIBERALS OPPOSE AFFILIATION. (From Our Parliamentary Rep.) WELLINGTON, June 30. When a Labour amendment relating to salary reductions was under consideration to-night in the House, Mr Wilford, the Liberal leader, made a statement regarding the party's attitude towards the proposal of the Post and Telegraph Officers' Association to affiliate with the Alliance of Labour. He regretted that Mr Holland had deleted from his original amendment a clause which would have enabled him to record a vote on this question for he wanted an opportunity of recording hia vote against the amalgamation of the Post and Telegraph Association with the Alliance of Labour. However by making a statement he could clearly indicate the party's position. He was firmly of opinion that the Alliance of Labour under its constitution could not function to the advantage of the State servants in their relations with the State, and he honestly held the opinion that it was not in the best interests of the Post and Telegraph Association to affiliate with the Alliance.

Mr Speaker at this point intervened to call attention to the fact that the subject was irrelevant to the amendment under discussion.
