Woman's World

The death occurred at Sydney last Monday of Sister Isabel Sinclair, well known in connection with Methodist institutions throughout New Zealand. News has been received in Christchurch that Miss Joan Carrington, eldest daughter of the Dean of Christchurch, and now at St. Hilda's Hall, Oxford, is engaged to be married to Mr B. By the death of Mrs Barbara Taylor, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs A. Cockroft, Earnslaw Street, on Sunday last, Invercargill has lost one of its oldest residents. Born in Aberdeen in 1836, she arrived with her husband and daughter in the ship Strathfieldsay at Port Chalmers in April, ISSB. Two years later she settled in Invercargill, where she had resided continuously in the same residence ever since.

After opening their season at football so auspiciously last Saturday, it was only fitting that the High School Old Boys' dance last evening should be a huge success, and such it was. The Empire Hall was prettily decorated for the occasion, the Club colours, black and white, being prominent and hanging in graceful streamers across the hall. The floor was in splendid condition for dancing, and the general arrangements reflected the utmost credit on the committee. There was a large attendance of Old Boys and their frie;sds, and the happiest atmosphere prevailed throughout. Smith's Jazz Band played up to its reputation, and the music was much appreciated. The chaperones were Mesdames Faire, Fuller, Monrad, Murray, Palmer, Penny, Trask and Miss Wilson, and the M.C. was Mr Jack Barnard, who was assisted in his duties by other members of the Club. A most enjoyable eveningwas spent by all.
