Mr. Harold Bcauchamp, !ate. chairman of the Bank of New Zealand, left Wellington by the Tahiti yesterday for San Francisco. The death occurred in Wellington on Monday morning of Mr. W. Roden Pliramer, only remaining son of Mr John A. Pliramer, in his forty-ninth rear. Mr. H. McSherry, solicitor, of Pahia!u«, whose health has been unsatisfactory for some time past, was again admitted to the public hospital on j Monday. Jlr. W. lioliis Cocker (son of the I Hev. J. Cocker), who recently return-! ed from England, has resumed his old j post, as associate to the Chief Justice j (Sir Robert Stout.) Mr. G. Wildish, the present. Mayor, j will contest the Gisborne seat at the seneral election in the interest of the United Party. Mr. T. Brindle will | be the Labour candidate. The death occurred in Palmerston North on Monday of Mr. C. L. London, formerly of Johnsonville. The deceased, who was a single man, was a member of the Druids Order. The Board of Governors of Marlborough College have appointed Mr. John Stewart, M.A., of Ashburton. High School, to be Principal of the College, vice Dr. J. Innes, resigned.— Press Association. The Levin "Chronicle" understands that Mr. W. Murdoch, Mayor of Shannon, will contest the Manawatu seat in the Liberal interest, and that Labour will be. represented by Mr. I'. W. Whibley, of Foxton. t Mr. W. Wallace Kidd. who has been lecretary of the Auckland Grammar Schools Board for over 29 years, is retiring from the position. During his tenure of office he has never been absent through sickness. A London cable states that sporting papers welcome the decision of McConachy, the New Zealand billiardlst, to remain in England for another year. New Zealandcrs in London have presented him with a gold tiki, Inscribed, "Kia Ora R'angatira." His Excellency the Governor-Gene-ral (Viscount Jeilicoe) passed through Palmerston North yesterday afternoon en route for Auckland, where he will be in residence for about two months. 31s Excellency's engagements will keep him very busy, but he hopes to wrjoy a few days' shooting. Mr. R. D. C. Lightbotirno, recently on the staff of the D.H.S. Feilding, and more recently organising teacher under the Wanganui Education Board, with his headquarters at Ohakune, has been appointed an organising teacher under the Auckland Board, with headquarters at To Kuiti. The Manawatu Golf Club, in its annual report, says: "Since the previous meeting we have lost one of our oldest members, the late Mr. H. Glftord Moore. He always took a most keen interest in the affairs of the club and had held the office of president tad served on the committee for very iaanv years, until the last two seasons, When failing health necessitated his tearing.
