The marriage of Mr T. T. Seddon, 31. P., to 3liss Wood, takes place at Christchurch to-night. 3lrs Porter, organising secretary of the Women’s National Reserve, is to visit Fcilding on Friday. 3lr C. P. Brown has resigned his position as president of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce. 31 r G. Killington has been appointed custodian of the Eketahuna Club. There were over 140 applicants for the position. At yesterday’s meeting of the Kairanga County Council a vote of confidence was passed with Councillor and 3J,rs Hopkins in the death of their son. The executive committee of the Palmerston North Returned Soldiers’ Association decided last night to again invite Padre Walls to conduct the soldiers’ memorial service on Anzac Day, April 25. The death occurred in the Pahiatua Hospital on Monday, of 3lr Francis Henderson, of Mangamutu. Deceased resided at one time at Konini. He was aged 6 2 years, and leaves a widow and family. 31 r R. 31. Bruce, B.Sc., A.R.S.M., A.T.C (London), has been appointed junior science master at the Wanganui Technical College Mr Bruce was professor's assistant at Victoria College, Wellington, in 1915-46, when ho went on active service. The resignation of 3lr H. N. Cooke from the executive of the Palmerston North Returned Soldiers Association was accepted with regret, and appreciation expressed of the good work that that gentleman had done for the Association in the past. The Hon. C. J. Parr. Minister of Education, telegraphed to the 3layor of Palmerston North (Mr J. A. Nash) yesterday afternoon, stating that he was suffering from a severe bronchial cold, and could only speak with difficulty, but he would adhere to his programme to-day unless he. further advised. Some of the newspapers of New Zealand state that Mr F. 31. B. Fisher has been rejected as a Parliamentary candidate by the Kilmarnock Labourites, on the grounds that his views are unsatisfactory and too moderate. Others state that it is Mr Andrew Fisher, formerly High Commissioner for Australia, who has been rejected. The death occurred at Taihape on Saturday of one of the oldest residents or Taihape, 3lrs T. Shute, sen. The deceased lady was admitted to the hospital on Thursday suffering from injuries sustained by being thrown out of a gig on account of the horse stumbling whilst she was being driven to Ohin\aiti to catch the train for Taihape, after paying a visit to her son’s farm near Ohingaiti. An operation was found to be necessary, but it did not have the desired effect. Bargain Basement reopens to-day from 2 to 4 at Collinson and Cunninghame’s.
