NOTES. (By “Avis.”) L. G. Butler was engaged to ride Landslide in the Takapuna Cup only on condition A. Reed could not do the weight. The flat racing season in England recently ende-Q and papers to hand by the last mail bring details of the turf honours list for the period in question. Alec Taylor trained the most winners (51), and also won the greatest amount In stakes £48,000, De Mestre (Mr Sol Joel’s trainer) is second for stakes £33,000, and J. Jarvis for winners (39).

Since returning from Trentham, Nursing Sister has done some good work on the Awapuni tracks, and is expected to show up at Hawera. This mare is not quite so well as she was at Christmas time. Fibre (9.5) will be a different horse at Hawera to-day than he was at Foxton. VThe sndy track did not suit him. Opiate (10.0) looks the hardest to beat. The Flying Handicap draws a good field of sprinters. Inah (7.13), who races well when fresh, should give a good account of herself. Another speedy customer is Celmisia (7.5.) What a scramble the Hack Scurry will be. Potoa King (8.7) is likely tc go out favourite, and should be well up at the home turn. Mark Time (8.7) has a reputation of being a good one, and five furlongs should suit him. Vespucci will be a staunch favourite in the Cup. The colours of Crossfire (7.12) and Roman (7.7) may show up in the Apprentices’ Handicap. The field will probably follow Gloaming home in the Egmont Stakes. The Hack Flat should provide a good contest between Lady Nassau (7.0), Muraahi (8.4), and Rcdlogue (7.3.) ‘ There is a good field engaged in the Open Welter. Cold Steel (8.13) and Kuia (8.4) are likely to be handy as 'the judge’s box is reached. I wonder why it is there are only four acceptors in the Egmont Cup? It is a disgrace, considering - it carries a stake of £I2OO. Evidently some owners don’t want easy money, as there are no Gloamings engaged. The Club should revise their programme, and divide some of the stake money amongst the hacks. It is reported that the New Zealand Cup winner, Royal Star, is still in a bad way and is to be spelled until next season. Nominations for the Wanganui J.C. Autumn Meeting are due on Friday. Gold Bud (8.13) and Royal Present (8.12) may run well in the Moana Handicap at Takapuna to-day. There is a good field engaged in the Anniversary Welter. Pente (9.9) and Mumble (7.8) look to have good prospects.
Stirrup Cup (10.6) and Miss Melva (9.8) may again account for the poor lot engaged in the Hack Hurdles.
The Takapuna Jockey Club Handicap should provide a good contest between Tama-a-roa (7.11), Uncle Ned (9.3), and Geoffrey (7.6.)
Morose (9.13) may lower her colours to Ad Astra (8.12) in the Hobson Handicap.
On his showing in tho Takapuna Cup. Marble Slab (8.2) should be hard to dispose of in the Hack Handicap. Of the others, Formalin (8.1) reads best.
A small field is engaged in the Open Hurdles. Rathlin (10.6) may turn the tables on Thrace (12.0). as it is a quarter of a mile shorter than on the first day.
The meeting will be brought to a close with the Suburban Handicap. Golden Bubble (9.13). Queen Abbey (7.6), and Infante (7.9) should fight out a good finish.
Mr Jas. Bull has purchased Tri boulet (Kilbroney—Portland Lass)
As the son of Kilbroney is a fine big gelding, no doubt he has been bought with a view - to making him a jumper. Triboulet won a couple of races at Marton at New Year time and scored at Trentham on Saturday.
You will look your best during the coming meetings if attired in a stylish suit and nobby hat purchased from Alf. Mahon, sports mercer, the Square. Call in and select your requirements from complete stocks of ties, hats, handkerchiefs, shirts, etc. Quality the best —prices right.*
