SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
AT FOXTOX ROPE WORKS. A serious accident occurred at the Poxton rope works yesterday. A man named Thomas Brewer got his arm caught in the hackling machine, and severely crushed. He was brought in to the Palmerston hospital, where it was found necessary to amputate the arm above the elbow. Enquiries at the hospital last night showed that the sufferer was progressing as favourably as the severe nature of his injuries permitted.

IN COMMITTEE. The House went into committee, and passed the Harbour Amendment Bill, the Loan Companies Bill, the Companies Temporary Empowering Bill., and the Arms Amendment Bill. All of these Bills were then read a third time and passed. The Dentists’ Amendment Bill was then taken in committee. On the suggestion of Mr Wilford Hon. C. J. Parr suggested that the total dental experience to qualify was reduced from live years to four, and in that form the Bill was read a third time. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. to-day. The Council agreed to the change' in the date of coming into effect of the Insurance Companies Deposits Bill, as proposed by Governor’s message. Managers were appointed to attend a conference with managers from the House relating to the disagreement on the amendments made by the Council in the Shops and Offices Bill. The Housing Amendment Bill was received from the House, read a second time, pro forma, and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. The Council adjourned at 2.41 p.m.
