MOTOR SMOKO. The Manawatu Motor Club held its annual smoke concert last night. Mr E. V. West, president of the Cluo, was in the chair, and proceedings went with a swing. In addition to Club members, numerous visiting riders were present. A most delightful evening was spent in music, song and speech. The following toasts were honoured; —“The King”; “Auto Cycle Union,” proposed by Mr A. A. Wood, responded to by Mr Gus Torstonson; "Winning Riders,” Mr B. Palmer —Messrs R. Jones and I. Loughlin; "All Riders,” the chairman —H. Moeller and L. Mangham, “First Aid —Mr J. B. Grant,” Mr B. Palmer —Mr Grant; “Sister Clubs,” Mr Torstor.son. “Officials of the M.M.C.,” Mr Frank Jones (Christchurch); and “The Press.” Contributors of musical and vocal items were: Messrs S. W. Wells (mandola solo), S. W. Walpole (pianoforte soli), L. E. Palmer (song), L. Bryant (song), A. J. Daly (song), Mr Heraud and Mr P. Flynn (monologue), and others. Mr B. Palmer, sports manager, presented the prize winners with their certificates of merit and cheques. The results achieved by the Har-ley-Davidson motor-cycle at yesterday’s motor sports were as follow: — 'NTovicet race, 5 miles, Managh, HarleyDavidson 2nd. Classic Handicap, 8 miles, Sonter Ist, L. Mangham 2nd. both on Harleys. President’s Handicap (open), 15 miles, L. Manghan (scr.), Ist; Paul, 2nd; Souter, 3rd; all on Harleys. Anniversary Handicap, 10 miles, H. Moeller 2nd, on Harley-Davidson. Consolation, 5 miles, H. Mangham, 3rd. Len Mangham secured fastest time on his 3J Harley-Davidson, lapping consistently in 56 secs, this being the fastest time ever recorded by any 3* h.p. machine.
