HYDRO-ELECTRICITY.
THE TE KOPO SCHEME. (Per Press Association.) TIMARU, Last Night. A large meeting of the town and country men interested in the subject discussed with Mr Boving the proposed harnessing of the Te Kopo river for electricity. A letter from the Minister of Public Works to the chair, man stated that sufficient power for South Canterbury’s needs can be supplied from Lake Coleridge at as early a date and as cheap a rate as from any alternative source, and when a bargain for supply from the develop;d Waipori is completed, South Canterbury could be supplied from two stations, Coleridge and Waipori. Some speakers argued that this could not be relied on. A resolution was carried that the Te Kopo scheme be approved and immediate steps be taken to carry it nto effect. The Mayor of Timaru seconded the imendment that the report by the lovernment engineer be obtained, but his was lost. A committee of the three named. o be joined by three for the Timaru lorough Council, is to make the necessary inquiries and then lay a scheme icfore the Minister. Mr Boving said that for low r cost per horse-power To Kopo should come next to Hora Hora and Waipori,
