FARMING NOTES.

AGRICULTURAL SHOWS. The following are the dates of the remaining Agricultural and Pastoral Shows in the Dominion this season: 1922. Horowhenua.—At Levin, January 18 and 19. Woodville.—January 24 and 25. Pahiatua.—January 27th. 1922. Feilding.—February 7 and 8. Dannevirke.—February 8 and 9. Masterton. —February 15 and 16. Marton.—March 1. The vendor of a line of steers at the cattle fair in Eketahuna last week put a pre-sale value on them of about £3 10/. They actually realised £4 11/. There was a distinctly improved tone at Messrs Dalgety and Co.’s cattle fair in Eketahuna on Friday, and more outside buyers were present than has been the case for many sales past. Mr J. Chesham, formerly of Dyerville, and now of Palmerston North, has purchased a farm of 400 acres, 13 miles from Palmerston North, and just past Rangiotu. Mr Peter Graham, R.A., who was universally known for his pictures of Highland cattle, died recently at St. Andrews, at the age of 85. Mr Graham was the son of an Edinburgh accountant. In 1877 he was elected A.R.A. and R.A. four years later. Almost the only marked exception to his Scottish series is to be found in a picture of “A Norfolk River," which he painted about 1877.
