POLIOS COURT,
ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. David Cameron, a young married man, appeared at the Police Court in Palmerston North yesterday, before .Messrs A. J. Graham and M. A. Eliott, J's.i'., and pleaded guilty to two charges of laise pretences. The first was that by issuing a valueless cheque lor £2, he obtained from Jane Shearer, of Falmcrslon North, £l/16/- in money and 4/- worth of goods. The second charge involved the issue ot a valueless cheque for £5 to J. T. Burrell, Palmerston North, for which he received 14/3 worth of goods and £4 5/9 in cash.
' A further charge, of damaging his cell was preferred against accused, who again pleaded guilty. Scnior-Scrgt. Fraser stated that after accused had been in custody a few days he had developed delirium tremens, and while in that condition had committed the damage, to the cell. Drink wan the cause of his departure from the straight and narrow way. On all three charges Cameron was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon any time within twelve months. He .was also ordered to pay £l, the cost of repairs to the cell, and £l/5/6 medical expenses, and to refund the amounts obtained under false pretences within one month. John Nickolich, who had been arrested in Palmerston North by Detective Culloty on a charge of obtaining board and lodging at Napier by means of a valueless cheque for £lB/10/-, was remanded to appear at Napier on the 17th inst.
