(By “Avis.”) The Ashhurst-Pohangina Club’s annual meeting is to be held on the Ashhurst course to-day, and should prove a centre of great attraction. The course should be in good order after the' rain that has fallen, and the going will be fairly easy. The first race on the card is the Hack Hurdles (1* miles). In this event Sir Fanciful, Gay Boy, Otaura Kid, Gold Problem and Passenger will have plenty of support. If Gold Problem stands up, he should very nearly break his “duck” as a hurdler. The Pohangina Handicap (six furlongs) should provide a splendid race between Nnrsing Sister, Soldier's Love, Tommy Rot, Amber Tips and Martian Miss. It is very nearly Nursing Sister’s turn. The event was won last year by Sweet Memory, who carried 7.11. This year the Maniapoto mare is in with 7.4, but she is meeting much better company. In the Flying Hack Handicap (six furlongs) Celmisia, Black Art and Kikini may divide public favouritism, though Plelen Rufus may run prominently. The Ashhurst Cup will probably see Esperance and Tari mosj in favour. Esperance won last year with 7.9 on her back. This year the Martian mare is carrying 7.11. Bonnetter will probably be a non-starter, and Matatua does not yet appear to be ready. Rose Wreath ran a good race at Masterton, and if she is in her best form she may be the hardest to beat. Festivity won recently at Levin. Malingerer, Spare Moments and Kail may run prominently in the Komako Hack Handicap (seven furlongs). The Maiden Stakes (five furlongs) will see a big field facing the starter. Solstice, Mark Time, Panache and Demoness may perform well. Amber Tips (if reserved), Automoana and Detroit may run prominently in the Raumai Welter (seven furlongs). The Manawatu Gorge Handicap (one mile) should furnish a good setto between Rebuff, Admiration and Notawcde. NOTES. Owners are reminded that nominations for the Dannevirke meeting close on Friday night. The following are additional acceptances for the Feilding races:—St. Andrew’s Handicap: Lovematch and Egmont Park. , Right out in front. —Alf Mahon’s Stock of Men’s Wear.
