NOTES. 'By "Avis.") The acceptances for the Feilding meeting are very satisfactory. The whole of the horses engaged at the Ashhurst meeting to-morrow-have now arrived. Excellent acceptances have been received, and a good day's sport should be provided. The special train will leave the course on the return journey at 5.30 p.m., and patrons will be able to return as far as Otaki, on the Manawatu line, in the evening. The publicans' and luncheon booths will be in charge of Mr. S. Evans and Mrs. Rawlins respectively. The weights for the Auckland Cup and Railway Handicap are due to make their appearance on December 2nd. It is stated that Mr. W. G. Stead is unlikely to exact any further racing from the veteran Sasanof. The Welkin is well positioned to again come out at the head of 'the list among winning sires in Australia this season. From August 1 to November 5 the Welkin's progeny had won stakes to- the value of £12,597. R. Ramage, who steered Carbine to victory in the Melbourne Cup inlS9o, and who is now a resident in Western Australia, is reported to have experienced hard days of late, and is just recovering from'a serious operation. When the last mail to hand left England, Polymelus and Sunstar were close together for the leading position on the winning sires' list. Descendants of Polymelus had captured stakes this season to the amount of £27,514, while those of Sunstar had £27,347 to their credit. Spearmint (by Carbine) figured fourth on the list with £14,223.

Winning-Hit does not figure among the entrants for either the Islington Plate or Auckland Plate. The'son of Autumnus, however, figures in the Great Northern Derby and Royal Stakes, which events aro set down to be run respectively on January 2 and 3. In the last-named event Winning Hit has incurred the maximum 101 b. penalty, and he will therefore be called upon to carry 9.2 in the six furlongs race. -

An offer of 400 gs. is said to have been refused by Mr. S. J. Gibbons for his yearling colt by Sunny Lake from Equitas. Next autumn the juvenile will join F. Tilley's stable at Fordell.

Mr. T. H. Lowry has chosen the following names for his four-year-olds at present trained by F. Davis —Brown colt, by Finland —Aurarius, Fingoland; bay colt, by Finland—D'ore, Moorland; brown colt, by Finland — Landrail, Finhaven; and bay colt, by Finland —Symbolism, Killashandra.

The English-bred Counter Attack is being trained at, Greymouth. He looks the picture of health, and should strip a fit horse at the Christmas meetings.

Thrace, which has been enjoying a few monts' spell. is being hacked about again preparatory to resuming active work.

The Alison Cup. to be decided at the Takapuna J.C. Spring Meeting, which opens on Saturday next, has drawn an acceptance of 15, and a good race should result. Uncle Ned and Insurrection are the ruling favourites, but the event is very open, for no less than eleven of those remaining in are handicapped at under Bst, and five of these at 6.7.

Right out in front. —Alf Mahon's Stock of Men's Wear. Call on the Sports' Mercer when you are in town.*
