[The "Times" car leaves PalmerBton North at 4.30 o'clock each, morning, and runs via Ashhurst and Woodville, to Dannevirke, and returning via To Rehunga and Kiritaki to Woodville, and thence to Palmerston North via the Gorge, 85 miles each day. The Notes below are supplied by our Travelling Representative, with headquarters at Danne/irke.J DANNEVIRKE A four-roomed house belonging to Messrs Ellis Bros., of Rua Roa, was totally destroyed by lire on Tuesday night. The building was occupied by Mr R. C. Torry, who lost practically all his belongings. A gale was blowing at the time, and it is supposed the fire was caused by sparks from burning logs. Great interest is being taken in the forthcoming children's concert, which is to take place in the Town Hall on Friday night. Miss Denvers and Miss Watson have been working hard to train the children, and the results are very satisfactory. Those intending to be present can rely on a first-class evening's entertainment. Archbishop Cattaneo, papal delegate of Australasia, will arrive in Dannevirke on Sunday evening. He will be accompanied by Archbishops Redwood and O'Shea. The whole party intend motoring through to Napier the following day (Monday). Mr F. Armstrong, of Akitio, who has been visiting the South Island, returned to Dannevirke yesterday. Shearing is in full swing throughout the district, and should the present fine weather continue, most of the sheds should cut out early next month. The postponement of the Wellington wool sale's has caused considerable disappointment among local farmers, who were anxious to obtain from prices offered there, an indication of what they may expect for this season's clip. Mr A. Montgomery, of Wanganui, is at present a visitor to Dannevirke. Mr J. Morton, of Waiwaepa, who recently underwent a serious operation at Nurse Guthrie's private hospital, has sufficiently recovered to be able to return to his home. WOODVILLE The president of the Chamber of Commerce reported at the monthly, meeting that the committee set up to compile the early history of Woodville was making progress, and that he hoped to be able to gWe some definite information at the" next meeting. It was decided not to send a representative to the conference or Chambers of Commerce. Mr Wardrop said he had been asked to arrange a visit to the Mangahao hydroelectric works, and he proposed that the matter be left in the hands of the president and secretary. A band recital by the Woodville Brass Band'will be given in Fountaine Square this evening, provided the weather is fine. A good programme has been arranged; those attending will be well rewarded. The A. and P. Association of Woodhave arranged with the Department of Agriculture to send their instructor (Mr F. W. Greenwood) to Woodville. He will give an illustrated lantern lecture on lucerne growin'g, in the*Foresters' Hall on Monday, 21st inst, at 8 p.m. The farmers of the district should avail themselves of this excellent opportunity, to learn the correct meaning of lucerne growing. The first assistant teacher (Mr G. Lawn) of the High School, Woodville, was appointed on Saturday last to the position hi secretary to the Southern Hawke's Bay branch of the N.Z. Educational Institute.
