HOCKEY ON SPORTSGROUND.
CRICKETERS’ COMPLAINT ANSWERED. The executive of the Manawatu Hockey Association have received with resentment the statements made by Mr T. R .Hodder in regard to the condition of the sports ground for cricket matches this season. They wore, that gentleman is reported to have said, “enough to make one weep,” owing to the hotkey tournament having been played there in wet weather. One member of the hockey executive is himself a cricketer, and at last night’s meeting of the former body he expressed the opinion with others that the grounds could very readily bo restored to their usually excellent summer condition. He instanced the fact that last season hockey had been played on the same, grounds and averred that during the summer the conditions had nevertheless been excellent for cricket. The following resolution was subsequently carried: —“This Association is surprised at the statement appearing in the Press attributed to Mr T. R. Hodder in regard to the condition ci, the sportsground, inasmuch as Ave are firmly of opinion that although the grounds were perhaps somewhat cut up owing to wet weather at the. conclusion of the tournament, the Coun>i» jvill be able to put them in first-class order by the time the Cricket Assp'clatlon fixtures commence, and that cricketers will suffer no Inconvenience through the grounds having been used for hockey.
