CHANNEL SWIM.

CONTROVERSY OVER MRS HAMILTON'S ATTEMPT.

[By Electric Cable —Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Tuesday, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, September 6.

Much public controversy has been aroused over Mrs Hamilton's attempted Channel swim. Mr Arthur Porter, yacht owner, who accompanied her on her trial swim in 1920, now reveals for the first time that he was asleep in his motor boat in Dover har%>our at the time she claimed to have swum within nine miles of the French coast, and actually had spent only one hour in the water. Mrs Hamilton says that Porter's 1 statement is a sheer fabrication, and she is consulting her solicitor. She admits that she did not keep a chart of this year's swim as she thought it was unnecessary, she being an amateur.
