P.N. RIVER BOARD.
YESTERDAY'S MEETING. The Palmerston North River Board met yesterday. Present: Messrs J. A. Nash, M.P. (chairman), J. Linklater, S. R, Lancaster, J. Batchelar, F. Jackson and L. R. Bryant. , The clerk reported that there was a credit balance at the bank of £BIB 3/3. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer (Mr J. R. Hughes' reported that; the riverbank at Anderson’s bond had been protected with a heavy covering of maevoearpa trees for a total length of eight chains. Arrangements had been made to cut and haui additional trees from a site about half a mile above the bend. It was satisfactory to note that the work done prior to the recent floods did not suffer in the slightest. In connection with Fitzroy bend the engineer stated that from surveys he had ascertained that the total amount of land lost since February, the date of the previous surveys, amounted to acres, and the mean width of the lost land 40 feet. Erosion took place for a length of 34 chains of river frontage, scouring away the upper end of the present stop-banks. Mr J. ’O. Batchelar waited on the Board and asked that the members pay a visit of inspection to certain of his property, which was suffering considerably from erosion. The Board acceded to the > request, and decided to make the visit after next meeting.
