A BIG PROFIT.

At the half-yearly meeting of the Australian and Colonial Sugar Company the report showed that the company had made a nett profit for the half-year of £155,296. Out of this, a dividend of 15/- per share has been paid, absorbing £121,875, leaving a balance of £33,421, to which , was added £251,888 brought into accounts, making the amount carried forward £285,510. The Fiji and New Zealand Company earned a nett profit for the year ended March- 31st of £461,979, and the dividend paid to September 30th absorbed £105,000, leaving available £356,979. Out of this a dividend at the rate of 6 per cent, has been declared on preference shares, and a further dividend of 5/- per share paid ordinary shareholders in the parent company. The latter distribution means that ordinary shareholders will receive a total dividend of 20A 1 per share, and £68,854 has been carried forward out df the year's profit.
