It is understood that at Senator McCormick’s dinner in honour of M. Viviani, M. Lauzanne, in a speech, said that France feared God and the United States Senate, and realises that the Senate at the present moment is nearer the earth and more active. M. Viviani told the Senators when replying to questions, 1 that if the League declined to recognise the recent Treaty with Poland, France would withdraw from the League. This delighted the bitter-enders, who think it sustains their argument that the League is unworkable.
