MOTOR NOTES.
• (By 1 ‘The Fan.”) The popular opinion held in the motor-cycling world that Percy Coleman is a faded blossom, got a rude jolt at Auckland on Saturday, when . Coleman made his re-appearance on the old S-valve Indian. The track Avas newly top-dressed, but’Percy sifted the dressing fast enough to lap in 50 4-ssec. His previous best on the Auckland course and bis world’s grass’ track record stands at 49 3-ssec for a lap. Coleman avoil the Victory Handicap (5 miles) in 4min 27sec, and the judges gave him a second in the Great Northern Handicap for finishing two seconds behind McGregor, another Indian rider. Cole-
man has entered a protest in the latter race, claiming that he Avas nearly a lap in the lead of McGregor and was just catching him again. Jack Sweeney (P.N.) was second in the Victory Handicap and first in the Consolation Race (5 laps), his time being smin ISsec, and E. C. Gaisford (Bulls) Avas second in the President’s Handicap (5 laps), up to GOO c.c., and third in the Takapuna Handicap. Although Len Mangham, the Harley Davidson champion, Avai not riding, several Harleys did well. A. T. Bell Avon the Takapuna Handicap (7 laps) in 7min Isec, and M. Paul, the A.P.M.C.C. Handicap (5 laps) in smin 9sec. Both these Avere stock machines.
S. Whitehead (Big X) was not up, but had a second in the Takapuna ■Handicap, and two thirds. H. D. Lincoln, riding a HarlcyDavidsou in one of the side-car events, hit the rail with the handle of his machine, causing it to- somersault. Luckily - it finished under the rail and left a clear track for those following, but as the side-car was falling Champtaloup (7 Indian), who was close up, passed under it. Luckily no one was hurt very 'badly. P. A. Crawford, the side-ear passenger, broke his wrist, and Lincoln bruised his shoulder and twisted his thumb. Charoptaloup was unhurt and won the race.
