The Woodville autumn meeting as opened yesterday in glorious weaker. from a good start and were soon joined by Probate, who was well in front at four furlongs, and was still there when the straight was reached. Well up the straight Spare Moment and Hepta both challenged the Provocation mare, who, however, held her own and won nicely by a couple of lengths from Spare Moment. Once in line for home Punka made her run and was clear at the distance. McCarten, on Lovematch, passed all the others but had no chance with the Cooltrim mare, who won comfortably by half a length. Just before thje home turn was reached Hyttus and Matatua ran past the rest and came into the straight together, and were still there at the distance. In the race to the post Matatua, who was a good favourite, won by a long neck, Sir Fanciful a length away third, Arch Salute fourth. Time, 1.27 4-5. Miss Elva ran past the stand just in front of Earthshine and these two led to the six-furlong post, where the flrst-mentjoned was well clear. The field closed up at the home turn, where Miss Elva faded out and left Earthshine in the lead. The Digger came at the All Black mare one hundred yards from the post, but she struggled on gamely and won a good race by a neck, Convention a length away third, Passenger half a length away fourth. Time, 1.54.

' NOTES. Acceptances for all first day events at the Wanganui Jockey Club's autumn meeting close on Monday next, February 21, at 8 p.m., with Mr W. Hall, secretary, P.O. Box 15, Wanganui. Nominations for the Easter and Autumn Handicaps, Brighton Hurdles and Autumn Steeples at the Auckland Racing Club's autumn meeting, close with Mr W. S. Spence, secretary, at 5 o'clock to-mororw. The holiday meetings are over, bul there are still a few to go to before tlu summer ends. Summer meetings require summer clothes. Alf.
