A TRAGIC DEATH.
ON MASTERTON SHOWGROUNDS.
A tragic death occurred on the Masterton show grounds at an early hour on Tuesday morning. It appears that about seven o'clock Mr John Kilmister, the caretaker of the showgrounds, was doing some work in one of the cattle races. A bullock was being driven into a pen by. Messrs J. W. Buchanan and W. P».ge, and it broke away and dashed down the race In which Mr Kilmister was engaged. A shout of warning was raised, but the caretaker fell, or was knocked, to the ground and the animal passed over hkn. Mr Kilmister scrambled to his feet and on to the top of a pen, six feet high. He remained here for about three minutes, when several bystanders observed that he had a dazed appearance. They went to his assistance, and caught him as he was aboat to fall in a state of collapse. Dr. N. Prior was urgently summoned by telephone, but on his arrival he discovered that the unfortunate man had passed away. There were no marks of violence about the body, excepting a slight cut ,on the nose, which had apparently' been caused by the fall. The deceased had been medically attended for heart disease, and it was evident that death had resulted from heart failure caused by a sudden shock, probably through fright.
