Acceptances for Hamilton are due oiHFriday. The Egmont meeting opens to-day, the acceptances received are well up to the, average, and some good facing should be witnessed. There are nine in the Ohawe Hurdles, of one and three-quarter miles. Explorer (11.3), Zola (11.10) and Kipling (9.3) look as well as anything in the race and should be in the money at the finish. I They are a smart lot in the Flying ■ Handicap of sjx furlongs, for which our local representative, Warplane, is "top weight with 9.6. The big Martian horse is now as well as ever he -was and is bound to run well, although he may find Income (8.0) and Crucelle hard nuts to crack at the difference) in weights. ? As is usual with short races there Is a big field in the Meremere Hack Handicap of five furlongs. Sunbath -(7.4), Canyon (8.10) and Skylight : :<7.9) look well in at the weights. Thsre are eight in the Egmont Cup .Of one and a-half miles, including . several recent winners in Simon, Landslide, Starland and Marqueteur. Starland will probably be favourite, 'and with Marqueteur and Simon should fill the places. There is a nice field in the Apprentices' Handicap of seven furlongs, and . a lot will depend on getting the most experienced boy. Automoana (8.13), Piro Piro (7.10) and Festive (8.2) may fight' it out. The Maipapa Hack Handicap of eight and a-half furlongs has filled better than most hack races over a distance, and should provide an interesting contest. Admiration (8.11), Lord Ashlea and Passenger (7.10) look as well as anything in the race and may finish somewhere near the order mentioned. There is a fine field in the Whareroa Welter Handicap of seven furlongs. Active (8.5), Prodigal (8.3)

and Voluble (9.3) are all worth watching. The holiday meetings are over, but there are still a few to go to before the summer ends. Summer meetings require summer clothes. Alf.
