In the semi-final of the amateur championship Hooper and Fry are playing three sessions of 666 each. In the first session Fry early took the lead and was 231 when Hooper was 133. The latter then opened up brilliantly, making breaks of 66, 73, and 130 and winning by 666 to 332. Later. Fry by extraordinarily consistent play has scored 1334 and Hooper 1247. The evening session of three and a-half hours is regarded as historic for the tenacity of both men. (Received Wednesday, 12.20 a.m.) LONDON, February 8. The evening session brought about a remarkable change. Hooper added fourteen to an unfinished break of 130. Fry then followed with breaks of 61, 94, 95, 53 and 99, averaging 17. Hooper made breaks of 78, 59, 39, 41 and 92, averaging nine. Old experts say whoever wins the final this semi-final will be regarded as a memorable struggle.
