ANTI-WELFARERS.

(Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, Last Night,

A public meeting was held to-night, when the aims and objects of the Welfare League were explained by Mr D. McLaren. There was an attendance of about sixty, but there was an organised opposition, and the speaker was severely heckled. At the close of the meeting, the speaker was tendered a vote of thanks. One mption was carried to the effect “that, after hearing the address, this meeting of the citizens of Wanganui is of opinion that it is not in the best intere/sts of the community that a local branch should be formed.”
