[The "Times" car leaves Palmer- . merston North at 4 o'clock each morning-, and runs via Ashhurst and Woodville, to Dannevlrke, and returning via Te Rehunga and Kiritaki to Woodville, Pabiatua and Ballance, and thence to Palmerston North, via the Gorge, 105 miles each day. Riddell, which took place on Wednesday afternoon, was a very lengthy and representative one, the deceased gentleman being held in very high esteem throughout the district. Rev. G. B. Stephenson officiated at the burial service. Ensign and Mrs Huston have returned from a stay of three weeks at Ashburton. Mr C. H. Collins, a local business man and a returned soldier, left on Wednesday to undergo a course of training at Trentham. So far, 520 applications for registration of firearms have been received by the local police. The design of Mr Fisher, of Palmerston North, has been accepted for the Norsewood war memorial. In the Anglican Church on Wednesday, Mr Herbert Chote, eldest son of Mr and Mrs H. Chote, of Tipapa- ■ kuku, was married to Miss P. Thompson, youngest daughter of Mrs Renata, of Ijiw's Road. Rev. G. B. Stephenson officiated. Mr E. Bateup, of the local postal staff, is about to leave the service to engage in farming near Napier. Mrs J. Scott, of New Plymouth, is spending a short holiday here as the guest of Mrs G. Rankin. Mrs B. Smith, of Waitahora and Mrs McConnell have returned from Wellington. Mr E. Burr, of the local Public Trust Office, and family, left for Otaki on Wednesday, where they will spend a holiday. Mr J. A. Norrie will be in charge of the Publio Trust during Mr Burr's absence. Mr C. Merrylees is about to take over the local Club Hotel, and the retiring licensee, Mr Fraser, may take a trip to Australia. \ Chautauqua is having a very successful run here, .the performances being largely attended' and greatly enjoyed. The juveniles of the community are also receiving attention from the Chautauqua management, as each day a member of the company entertains the children on the Recreation ground. PAJIIATUA SHOW. The entries for the Pahiatua Show, to be held on Friday, are the best in the history of the association. Ihe cattle classes have attracted remarkably fine entries, and have just doubled last year's record. The largest entry has been received for the yearling grade heifer .class, and no fewer than 42 heifers will face the judge in this competition. The horse classes have also filled well and are ahead of pre-ious years. The prospects of a successful show are highly encouraging. .
