COAL DECREASE.

REDUCED SPENDING POWER. [By Electric Cable—Cop /right.) i [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Wednesday, 8.5 p.m.) LONDON, February 1. The Mines Department announces that the prices of coal would be decontrolled on March 1, when instructions that the collieries supply specified districts would also be withdrawn. The "Daily Telegraph" estimates the output of the coal mines during February to bemilions of tons a week less than during December, which will lessen the miners' earning' powers to the extent of £1,250,000, apart from the reduction in wages of 2/, as already cabled, which will mean another half million. This enormous reduction in the spending power of the miners will affect many trades.
