Protective measures have been adopted. “Freeman’s Journal,” in a forecast of De Valera’s message to the Irish people, says: “He will demand that peace overtures be based on the recognition of Ireland as a nation. De Valera will express his willingness to hear Britain’s proposals if he is so asked. He will ask for safe conduct in Ireland.” The “Journal” adds that De Valera is in touch with the Sinn Fein leaders and the Crown forces are seeking him.
