CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR.

RETAILERS' HOLIDAYS. A meeting of the Palmerston North Retailers' Association was hold yesterday for the purpose of deciding as to holidavs to be observed at Christmas and New Year. Mr L. H. Collinson presided. The chairman moved that, in the first place the shops be kept open all day on Wednesday, 22nd December. —Mr Millar seconded the motion, which was carried. —Mr N. Sinclair said that the grocers could not do this on account of their award or requisition. —On the motion of MiMillar it was decided to observe Christmas holidays' on Saturday and Monday. December 25th and 27th. and Saturday and Monday, January Ist and 3rd. It was also decided to observe the usual Wednesday halfholiday on January sth Mr H. M. Garner said that the managers of firms seemed to go for as many holidays as possible, but he assured' them that, if they were m business on their own account, they would not be so anxious for so many holidays. .
