BOWLING AND CROQUET.
MEETIXd OF MANAWATU CLUB. The second annual meeting of the Manawatu Bowling and Croquet Club was held on Wednesday night. Mr C. F. Spooner (president) presided over an attendance of 50 members. The annual report congratulated members on the club’s position with regard to the number and quality of players, and also financially. Starting the 1919-20 season with a membership of 32 bowlers and 51 croquet players, they had finished with 41 bowlers and 54 croquet players. Special mention was made of the efforts of the Ladies’ Entertainment Committee in providing refreshments, and also of the croquet secretary (Mrs Mcßae), and the general secretary (Mr W. W. Jones). The club was in the unique position of having no subscriptions outstanding. Mention was made of the successful tournaments held during the season. Numbers of visitors had been entertained, and all had been favourably impressed with the condition of the croquet courts and bowling green. With reference to the additional acre for playing area, the committee had come to terms with the Borough Council, by which they were to pay £125, the estimated cost of laying out the new greens, and an additional rental of £3O per annum. which in future would increase their liability from £125 to £155 per annum. The report and balance sheet were adopted. The following officers we-e elected: Patron. Mi- J. A. Nash. M.P.; president. Mr C. F. Spooner; lon. secretary and treasurer, Mr C. A. E. Ferguson; auditor, Mr W. Hunter; committee. Messrs W. W. Jones. D. M. Pastier, W. McKenzie, Dr. Whitaker, Mesdames Mcßae and Baxter. Twenty-one new members were elected.
