DA.\ VEVIRKE DOINGS. An iii>weary, reminding one of a politica! campaign, has been mapped out by the Farmers’ Fnion for .Mr Deem, Fields Instructor. He is billed to discourse on soils, etc., at various settlements, being' set down for three addresses in the one day, in order to get in touch, with as many farmers as possible. “Bring forth the fatted calf." was the command in olden times. Nowadays. the l:ml! calf is not spared, and the slaughter of the innocents continues round the countryside. "Xo use rearing them,” exclaimed a man with a knife-sharpener, as he went out to slay. The season before last lambing percentages were unusually high. ’This year reports vary—some are good, others fair, but the black-face arc accounted for iii good numbers. Senior-sergeant Harvey has arrived from Otahuhu to assume charge of the local police station. He was the recipient of presentations before leaving that town. Senior-serg'eant O’Halloran and family departed for Vapidon Thursday. From the Court officials the sergeant received a piece of silver ware as a token of esteem. The It.S.A. held a masked ball. It was very largely attended, and many striking costumes were worn. The decorations, too, were effective. Frizes for the most original costumes were won by tin- following:—Misses Lyons. Haines. I.almbeen and Tyson, and Messrs A. Gillespie, C. Boss and Rogers. Music was supplied by Duncan’s orchestra and Mi- C. Carston, and the M’s.C. were Messrs Gapes, Reisima Hcta and L. Herbert. Wednesday’s rep. football matehc means the retention of the sub-union shield by Danevirke. One of the Fast Const players, Piki, sustained a fracture to his right leg. The local union have scored in all S5 points during the season, and only six have been registered against them. The wedding took place in the Napier Presbyterian Church of Air W. l-I. Jacques, of Te Rehmiga, and Miss G. McLean, eldest daughter of Mr C. McLean, late of Maharahara store. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked well in a frock of white China silk, her veil becomingly fastened with orange blossoms, and she carried a sheaf of lilies. Miss M. McLean (sister of the bride), acted as chief bridesmaid, wearing a frock of pink silk, while Miss M.« Hutchins, of Napier, the second bridesmaid, wore a pale blue crepe de chene. and both carried bouquets. The^ future home of the young people will be at Te Rehunga. A Raumati settler. Mr F. J. Dennis, has 100,000 cubic yards of limestone deposit upon his property. Samples are to be analysed. Air W.
