PERSONAL PARAGRAPHS.
The chief postmaster at Christchurch, Mr H. D. Grocott, has received notice of his transfer to Wellington. Mr Stable, who has been accountant on the local staff of the Bank of Australasia for a short time, is leaving to-day for Otaki, where he has been appointed manager of the bank. Mrs Stable (as Madame Ottlee) was well known in musical circles in Christchurch. An old resident of Palmerston North, Mrs Johanna Brophy, died yesterday, aged 75 years. Born in County Kilkenny, Ireland,, in 1806, she married Mr Peter Bophy, and in 1874 they came out to New Zealand, landing at Invercargill. After a few years they removed to Hawera, finally settling in Palmerston North in 1892, Deceased is survived by three daughters and two sons. To-morrow at ten Collinson and Cunninghame’s big sale is to commence. To-day their whole staff are at work behind closed doors in preparation for the event. Urgent business only can be attended to, but tomorrow the general public are invited to participate in the bargain feast. A display advertisement on another page sets forth some of the values.*
