SHIP AFIRE.

(Per Press Association.) TIMARU, Last night. The small steamer Manaroa, 300 tons gross, left Dunedin for Lyttelton and Westport at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, with a full cargo of general merchandise. At t>.3o this morning she was found to have a fire in the midship hold. The crew fought the fire all day, and failing to master it, Captain Johnston made for Timaru as the nearest port, and arrived there at 7 p.m., and the fire hrigade were sent for to assist. A large quantity of water was poured into the hold, taut the fire is still taurning at 11 p.m. It was the Manaroa's first trip after refitting, and Captain Johnston's first voya e in her.
