MEAT PRICES.

ARMOUR'S REPRESENTATIVE SPEAKS. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The shipments of New Zealand lamb to the United States were originally arranged with the Imperial Government through Messrs Armour and Co., Ltd., London. At the instigation of Messrs Armour and Co., of Australasia, Ltd., this statement was made to a reporter to-day by Mr N. L. MacBeth, manager in New Zealand for Messrs Armour and Co., of Australasia. Ltd., when referring to last night's Auckland message re New Zealand iamb on the American market. Whilst unable to give details, he knew that the price of 11 cents per lb, stated to have been paid to the Imperial Government, is quite wide of the mark, a price very much above this was paid. A Los Angeles cable says:— Profiteering in New Zealand meat was charged against Armour and Co. and its New Zealand manager in Boston on May sth. It was alleged that the firm bought lamb in New Zealand for 10 cents a lb, plus freight charges of about 4 cents, and sold it at 25 cents per lb. The sales were part of a consignment of 100,000 carcases. The manager, who was released on bail, said that the company always sold its produce at market prices, whether for gain or loss. Chicago, the meat centre of the world, is now eating meat imported from Australia and New Zealand. The price of lamb has been forced down 2 cents per lb in the Chicago market, packers say, by large importations of frozen lamb from the Antipodes.
