(To the Editor.) Siri ] would like to draw your attention to the housing pioblem. X think it is a shame the way the houses -xve sold in Palmerston ISToi-tli putting people out into the street with no chance whatever of even getting rooms. Myself, my wife and two children and four other adults and a child’ 12 years are living in a fourroomed house, with a yard not big enough to swiijg a cat in, and if you are looking for rooms, as we have been, the first thing you are asked is: how’many children have you? Of course, if you have got any, they won’t let you the rooms. There are plenty of empty houses here, taut not to rent —but for sale. I would like to see some others take this matter up.—l am, etc., A RAILWAYMAN. (To the Editor.) Sir, —Could you tell me through your valuable columns why the Chinamen can sell at the present time Three Castles tobacco and cigarettes at 9d per packet, and still make a profit, and our own tobacconists are charging lOd, so what are they making? And still we deal off. them. . I myself don’t believe in dealing off a Chinaman, but if a man can save a penny on a paltry packet of cigarettes, then I say deal off the Chinaman, or else pay a penny more, and help the “poor” prohteer.—l am, etc., SQUARE DEAL.
