BOWLERS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—The Borough Council should now make pause in their carnival spirit. The Manawatu Club was an initial success, but now comes the difficulty which is also experienced by the Terrace End. We cannot get a game except on a half-holiday. Rest upon your laurels until time and population overcome this handicap.—l am, etc , THE LEISURELY MAN. (To the Editor.) Sir,—A great number, like myself, were very glad to read your leading article on staffing the hospital in last Saturday’s paper, though, after read- i-j ing the report of the Board’s meeting, it strikes one that a better heading would be “Strafing the doctors.” Dr. Whitaker is unfortunate in his letter; published in the “Times” this morning. He complains of your report of his speech at. the last meeting of the Hospital Board, and gives his own version of same; but where your reporter “shaded” some parts in light pencil. Dr. Whitaker’s letter seems to accentuate same in very black ink. He classifies his three types of medical men, and his description of same reminds one of the ostrich and its head. Take No. 1 and 2. Could anyone fail to recognise the two brilliant men at whom Dr. Whitaker is tilting? “No. 2,” especially. From my knowledge of the latter I should say Dr. Whitaker should be (.•■ireful in what he says and writes about him—for he has proved, on several occasions, that he has the deuce of a long reach for a little man Speaking as it layman, it seems to me absolutely wrong that hospital patients should be debarred from the privilege of the services ox any medical man in Palmerston that they desire--but apparently such will continue to be the case while the Board. Is constituted as at present. 1 am '\UMBER ONE’S GRATEFUL PATIENT.
