Hockey.—College Street Old Boys (Palmerston North) and Dannevirke meet here to-day (Wednesday). PAHIATUA PARS. Mr A. Stevenson, late chairman of Kaitawa Cheese Co., whose farm will be managed by his sons, is removing with his family to Foxton. One son, Mr W. In the Presbyterian Church Mr Allan Cecil McCardle, third- son of Mrs W. W. McCardle, was married to Miss Eileen Dulcie Batten, second daughter of Mr and Mrs W. H. Batten, of Pahiatua. Mr and Mrs McCardle were the recipients of many valuable presents, including a set of cutlery from the members of the Pahiatua Municipal Band, and a silver spirit kettle from the St. Paul's Bible Class. The Mayor presided over the annual meeting of the Patriotic Society. Mr John Harding was unanimously re-elected representative of the Society on the executive of the Hawke's Bav War Relief Association. He was also appointed delegate to the annual meeting of the Association to be held at Napier on 28th inst. Very complimentary reference was made to the excellent work done by Mr Harding on the executive in the interests ot soldiers and their dependents. Ihe annual report stated that a sum ot £BOC6 had been subscribed in the town and district, and of this amount £3385 had been disbursed in loans, and £IOO4 10/7 in grants. The secretary (Mr T M.. Graham) was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his excellent services. , .. Mr C. Lynch, of Papatawa, has sold his farm to Mr Golder, of Hukanui, Messrs Sutton and Harkay effecting the deal. _ . , „ The Papatawa Patriotic Society has disbanded. It finished up with 5/8 cash, and eulogies to all workers by Messrs J. M. Hutchinson and C. b. Baker (chairman and secretary) were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The hockey match, Ruahine v. Nicholls, a taxi driver, from Dannevirke, was charged with being drunk while in charge of a motor, and with negligently driving a motor at Woodville on the ,thi inst. on each charge he was lined t_ 10/. The Bench pointed out that a man under the influence of liquor while in charge of a motor was a menace on a public highway.
