KAIRANGA COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Kairanga County Council was held yesterday; present —Crs. J. Linklater (chairman), M. A. Moody, D. Collis, D. 'Protise, A. J. Taylor, C. Anderson and W. R. Hopcroft. TO RAISE LOANS. After a "thorough discussion of the matter, it was decided that the Council should take steps to raise loans for the following purposes from the State Advances Office:—£looo for Taonui riding, for improvement of No. 4 Line and as subsidy for the Government grant, and £2OOO for reconstruction of culverts and bridges, and such further sum as the engineer finds necessary. It was also decided to borrow the following sums for ridings as under:Fitzherbert riding: £450 for widening and improving approaches to the Fitzherbert bridge; £2OOO for the construction of culverts and bridges, and such further amount as the engineer finds necessary. Mangaone riding: £2OOO for the construction of culverts and bridges, and such further sum as the engineer might find necessary. In connection with the Fitzherbert water-race, it was decided to borrow a further £I2OO to complete the work. Reg-arding the erection of workmen's cottages, it was decided to raise the following loans under the Housing Act, 1919: —Fitzherbert riding, £1000; Taonui riding, £3000; Mangaone riding, £3OOO. It was decided to support the Hawera Borough Council's resolution, urging the Government, to take steps to remove the duty on children's footwear. It was agreed to support the Pahiatua County Council's suggested amendments to the Housing Act. As the Council had already joined in with Palmerston North's electrical scheme, it was decided that it could not agree to Feilding's request for cooperation in forming a power district.
