HOROWHENUA NOTES.

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) The death has taken place of Mrs Gleeson, an old resident of Ohau. At the annual meeting' of the Levin branch of the Farmers’ Union Mr G. Talby, the popular president, was elected for another term. Other officials elected were: Vice-presidents, Messrs Kebbell, Broadbelt and J. McLeavey; delegate to provincial executive, Mr Broadbelt: committee, Messrs Davies, Gimblett, Becher, Stewart, Gorringe, Page, Jackson, Adkin and Kilsby; secretary, Mr F. R. Wright. Miss L. Frechtling won the ladies’ sailing race promoted by the Boating Club. There were three competitors. The Golf Club had a very successful opening on Saturday. The competitions resulted: —Ladies’ approaching and putting: Mrs Clark 6, Miss Beckett 7, Mrs Porter 9. Men’s approaching and putting: Biss G, Harper 7. Higgins won the driving with Bonld second. The Y.M.C.A. Hockey Club held its annual meeting on Monday evening, when the following officers were elected: President, Mr J. E. Dean; vicepresidents, Messrs Keys, Gibson and Vincent; secretary and treasurer, Mr R. H. Billens; match committee, captain, vice-captain and secretary; delegate to union, president and secretary. Mrs W. F. Grove and family returned tcP Levin during the week from England. The Rev. Mr Grove reached here two or three months ago, but owing to the difficulty of getting passages, Mrs Grove and family were compelled to wait. The Rev. J. H. and Mrs Haslam were farewelled at a largely-attended social in the Century Hall last evening on the eve of their departure to Ponsonby, Auckland, to which circuit Mr Haslam has been appointed. Mr Haslam and family leave for the north by to-day’s express.
