With few exceptions all the horses engaged at the meeting put in an appearance at the track this morning. Esperance ran four furlongs alone in Blsec; Philomela and Flight Commander, going slightly faster than Taunaha, sprinted well; Sandy McDonald and Ri.singhani finished in that order at the end of four furlongs, in 51 3-ssec; Bonetter and Hymestra ran six in 1.20; Humbug and Tigritiya four in 49sec; Michaela and Vagabond six in 1.1 "see; Explorer and Rebuff a mile in L47sec; Bindle ran the last three of six in 40sec; Imaribbon ran six in I.2osec; Trespass and Miss Gold the same in l.lOsoc; Raceful and Kilgour four in 4 9 4-5 sec; La Paix four easily in 52sec; Hetaua sprinted; Ivohu and Eochclla jumped five hurdles well; Arrowsmith, Fiery Cross and A myth as had easy tasks; Onslaught and his stable' mates worked after breakfast. lIORORATA RACING CLUB. Will Oakland 7.11, Rippingill 7.7. NOTES. The new electric totalisator will be in use at Trentham to-day and Saturday. A trial run of the machine was made on Tuseday, and those who saw it working say that it gave complete satisfaction. A special train will run to Awapuni on the day of the Manawatu Trotting Club’s annual meeting. Mr A. H. Manson, the Club’s popular secretary, is now busy making final arrangements for the meeting, which promises to be the most successful yet held by the Club.

Fisher and Master Moutoa, who went over to Australia in charge of the Otaki trainer, Mr “Dug” Webster, [ arrived at their destination in good condition, and have now been put into steady work. Coalition, who ran some hard luck races last steeplechase season, did a fair amount of work this season, and should be handy in some of the big cross country events this winter. Though the totalisator invesements at the Australian Jockey Club’s meetings are showing an increase, they are still a long way behind those of the leading Dominion clubs. It was thought worth while cabling the fact that at the meeting just concluded at Randwick the record sum of £287,930 was speculated for the four days. This is certainly a big advance on even the popular spring gathering, but it falls a lot short of the £4 3 5,781 handled at Ellerslie last Christmas time. Though the Renown Steeplechase at the C.J.C. Royal Meeting is not likely to get a great deal of support from local stables, there should be no lack of southern competitors. Amongst the latter may be mentioned Palladio, San Sebastian, Silverspire, Zarkoma, Grafton Tot, St. Cletus and I Luigi. Most families would probably be satisfied for one member of the household to draw a horse in Tatts. Consequently the performance of two brothers in Sydney in drawing a horse each in the sweep race at Roschill must be considered as -well above the average, though, unfortunately for the drawers, neither was able to get into a place. The Toff, who as a two-year-old and th»ee-year-old was a first-class perforampr in New Zealand, was sold in Adelaide recently for 23 guineas. Now six years old. The Toff has been a failure in Australia.

C. Emerson left San Francisco by the Tofua on Saturday last. He should arrive in Auckland about the end of the month. The Sydney cup was worth to the owners of the winner £4824; the Champagne Stakes, £2558; First Nursery, £775; and Flying Handicap, £ 6 5 0. The Easter meetings are now finished, and preparations are going on for the winter racing, which will be here all too soon. You will need something warm for winter wear, and as the prices are going to bo high, buy now and save money. Alf.
