Mr (A L’cck, who sokl liis farms at Totaramoa and Otane, is going - to live in retirement in Hastings. His son, Mr 1-1. Peck, has sold out at Totaramoa, and bought a farm at Woodville. Mr and Mrs J. D. Gillivray are leaving Te Kchunga and are to be farewelled by the settlers at a social. The establishment of a girls’ hostel is proposed by the Women’s National Reserve, and the funds are to be raised by means of gift shop;; and entertainments. !;i 1919 over £75 was distributed by the Reserve to deserving - causes. The membership is increasing. .-.bowing growing interest in the movement. The health of Mr Jos. Mackenzie, formerly of Dannevirko, and now of Featherston, is reported to he in a critical state. A deputation from the Dannevirko County Council. consisting of the chairman (Mr J. W. Ellingham) and Mr F. G. Cowper, ex-chairman, laid before the Minister for Public Works (the Hon. J. G. Coates) the urgent requirements of the district in the matter of bridges, and subsidies were asked for to the amount of £16,000. It was stated that* some of the bridges in the district were in a very bad state and two at least would have to be renewed without delay. The Minister said he would give the request his earnest consideration. A Matamau boy, Maurice Hughes, formerly of the local High School, is making good. He won the gold medal for highest marks on the training ship Amokura. Sydney Rolfe, fined on Tuesday for various offences, was on Wednesday convicted of drunkenness, and ordered to get out of town, otherwise he would come up for sentence. A prohibition order was also issued against him. The late Mrs A. J. Redgrave, who died at Nelson, was the mother of Mr A. F. Redgrave, of Dannevirke.
PAITTATUA WEDDING. The wedding took place on April sth at St. Bridget’s Church, Pahiatua, of Miss Grace Winifred Cornford, only daughter of Mr and Mrs T. G. Cornford, of Kaitaua, and formerly of Moawhango, Taihape, and Mr John Marshall Jones, only son of Mrs W. Jones, Puketapu, Napier. The Rev. Father Saunderson performed the ceremony. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of ivory crepe-de-chene and georgette, and wore the usual veil and orange blossoms, and carried a bouqliet of white chrysanthemums and orchids, with long streamers of white ribbon. The bridesmaid, Miss Zeala. Adams, of Dannevirke, cousin of the bride, wore cream crepe-de-chene, with a black hat, relieved with pink, and carried a hOllnuct of autumn flowers, with long pink streamers. Mr Barney Cox, of Christchurch. attended the bridegroom. After the ceremony the guests were entertained at East’s tea rooms. Later Air and Mrs Jones left by motor, the bride travelling in a navy costume, with a saxe blue panne velvet hat, underlined with apricot georgette, and wore a long feather stole, the gift of the bridegroom. Their future home will be in Dannevirke. s
